surging

I headed out of town this past weekend with 2 quads and a dirt bike on the truck. My guess is 1500 pounds. Several times while climbing a hills, the truck would surge. I was doing 60-70 mph and turning 3500-4500 rpms. If I let up on the gas it would stop. At first I thought it was the cruise control acting up but it did it a few times with the cruise off. No CEL light. No noises. I dunno if it is a fuel issue or maybe a slip of the tranny? The truck runs great otherwise. I have 140 miles left on my warranty. I know the dealer won't be able to duplicate this issue. I must admit I am over due for the tranny service but the fuel/air filters are up to date.

On the same trip, I had just pulled off the highway and was headed down a dirt road. I was doing 10-15 mph and the truck just died. I was able to stop and it restarted just fine. This same issue happend over the summer while camping.

Just an update. I took the truck into the dealer Wednesday morning. Here are my complaints and they're response.

1 Front bumper cover warped. Covered under a TSB. They said: Found deep scratches/gouges and aftermarket item/hich installed behind the bumper. NOT A WARRANTABLE CONCERN!!! OK, I did hit a chain link fence while parking. That left the scratch. The hitch only means I removed the bumper and installed a hitch. How can either of these two things warp a bumper cover??

2 I had the surge issue mentioned in this post. They said: EEC tested and passed. Checked PID values on test drive. All readings in normal ranges. Power balance even, and fuel PSI normal. OASIS shows TSB 05-18-06 for surge concern. Reprogrammed, retested, passed P1000

3 I mentioned that it liked to ping on hwy trips but once in higher elevations it stopped. They said: EEC tested. Test drove, never duplicated issue. Nothing on OASIS. Programed ECU to latest calibration. (same as above)

4 I hear a faint squeek in 4x4 mode. They said: Roadtest in 2 high, 4 high and 4 low. Has noise in front diff area. Lift on rack. Found front diff seal making noise. Spray seal. Noise went away for a few seconds then returned. Remove both front hub assembly, both axle shafts for access to axle seals. Replace axle seals, reinstall axle shafts and hubs. Re road test. No noise found. Isn't the axle seal and diff seal different?? With all the issues with the electric shift I really hope they didn't mess anything up.

5 Continuing exhaust leak at manifolds where the pipe bolts on. Only when cold and only lasts 30 seconds to a minute. They said: Let sit over night. No leak found at any manifold or pipe. 4 times at 2 dealers and they can't find the leak!!! I could go out there right now and find it...

I'm at 35980 miles so after the next beer run she's all mine.

I know how you feel V10Man. Seems like the only good techs post here on FTE and don't work in our home towns.
