Get 4 relatively skinny but long nails and stick them in the 4 holes around the outside of the face of the radio. Push the nails from the sides towards the outside of the radio. If they dont feel like they want to spring back then pull the nails out a little bit and try again. When you get them to want to spring back, push them outwards again and pull the radio out.

I've done Ford DIN radio extraction with shaped coat hangers, finishing nails & now with the correct tool that came from crutchfeild with my Xmas present that I installed yesterday. I can safely say... Get The Tools!... Its worth every penny.

Thumbs up

I'll have to agree, I have one of those stupid radios in my 97 international 8100 and I practically ruined the radio tanking it out with an assortment of nails and bent coat hangers, and it still wouldnt come out. I had to go to the dealer, and the dealer litterally laughed at my face and removed the radio within 2 min with the nifty little tool. Needless to say, I went out and bought the tool at Advance Auto a few days later.

Why use the tools? Because believe it or not some people actually put the old radio back in before they sell or trade the vehicle. If you break the radio by not using the CHEAP removal tools (I make less than $7 an hour and can afford them..) then you're stuck with a vehicle that isn't worth as much. A working radio can add as much as 200 dollars to the trade in or resale value.

I agree with lostin90s. Anyone with half a brain can remove one of these radios with a handfull of nails without even scratching your radio. Its not rocket science. And also I dont consider spending 5 bucks for something completely unnecessary CHEAP.
