Cottonwood is supported through its sales taxes. They do not have a property tax. The city has improved its inter-city transportation infrastructure with ready access to the interstate highway system. Many styles of housing are available in a variety of price ranges.
I hate to bring BAD news. We have a place in Cottonwood AZ. There is NO CITY property TAXES, But there are County TAXES. In Arizona there is 3 TAX LEVELS. There is STATE TAXES 5%, COUNTY TAXES which varies from County to County, then there is CITY TAXES which also vary. Some CITIES & TOWN have NO CITY TAXES. But every COUNTY has taxes. The sales tax in Cottonwood is 8.75%.
Don't want people thinking there are no taxes because there are.
My Personal opinion:
reasonable time and distance access to:
Grand Canyon
Phoenix
Vegas
Laughlin
LA

Move to Pahrump Nevada. A lot of East Coast people there, Close to Las Vegas 60 miles, Cheap living, low taxes, rural. 5 hours to L.A. Dry climate, cooler than Las Vegas in the summer. 3100 ft of elev. Great place. My wife taught school there for 6 years.
I was born in raised in Northwest NJ, and my wife from Long Island(Seaford). We moved to FL in '95 and haven't looked back once. Sure, I'm biased, but it's worth a look. Great weather, no state income tax, reasonable property tax, blah, blah, blah.....
I left LI quite a few years ago after growing up there. I know I wouldn't want to live there now. Come on down to SW Virginia (Stuart area) near Martinsville. 3 bdrm, 2 bath house with full walkout basement, 8' by 44' deck across back, 1/2 acre total tax last year was about $278. About 4-4 1/2 % income tax. One thing to think about is that your retirement is not taxed in NY (state employee and part of the NY State retirement system) North Carolina is growing. Things to think about, are which states have property tax (car, tools, boat etc). I found it is cheaper for me to register a car in NY than in VA. The school systems around Winston-Salem, NC seem to be looking for bus drivers a lot. There are a lot more school bus accidents down here than in NY. Lots of things to think about, you might check out area newspapers online to get a feel for the area.
I moved to Tenn in 88. Its been good to us in jobs & it has good schools. The climate is mild. Job seem easy to find from my experience. My property tax is $1300 a yr for about twice the sq ft house as you have now.
TN can be nice, I lived near Nashville for a few years and loved it, esp. the parks and the golf courses. Sales taxes are high but property reasonable. Wages arent what they are in NY though Im sure. E. TN is even cheaper, and some snow. Stay away from Memphis is my advice.
Don't move to Oklahoma. 'twixt all the illegals and the damn yankees movin' here, we're runnin' outa room.
Pete
You have to tell all the illegals. If they can grab a tornado by the tail. All their wishes will come true including a green card. That should make some room for me. Wadda think?
when i lived in tx ibought 2acres with an ok 2 bedroom house for 30000.the taxes on it were 367 a year there in no state income tax there either.people are freindly nice wooded senery. to me i wish i hadnt moved up here in cold country.if you decide to go that way just stay out of the bigger towns itll cost more to live in them.my place was at the end of a 2mile backroad just 7 miles from the next big town just perfact for me.this was in the corrigan leggett tx area it would definatly be a change in lifstyle for ya
We just want to thank everyone who replied to this post. It was not really intended to be a monetary issue. That info is a click away. Our goal was to see if anyone would boast about where they live. To us that speaks volumes. As many a person frequent this site. We were very surprised at how little a response we got. That also speaks volumes. To all that stepped up.
Thankyou. Now it is time for us to do some homework. Who knows, we could be your neighbor someday.
I offered the place I did because I really liked it there.
It had everything I look for in Living..not just surviving.
I would never suggest for someone to go a place that I wouldn't live myself.
It has a great climate, good enough amenities, water,Taxes or living standards, proximity to other places I would like to be near.
This is the main reason I live where I do in Alberta.
Quality of life, cost of living, weather
proximity to:
the mountains,
Supernatural BC,
to the Family farm in Saskatchewan,
All my friends spread out throughout the province,
an International airport,
to the US by car.
