I got this new F250... Whoever owned it put these stupid Harley Davidson emblems on the two fenders and tailgate.. The truck isn't a HD Edition, the owner just loved Harley so he stuck them on...
How can I get them off? without ruining my paint? I really hate the damn things and wish they were not there..
First put some tape around the emblems. Then get a putty knife with a wide enough blade to make one pass under the emblem. Make sure it has a thin blade that will flex. Very carefully push the blade between the emblem and the panel, the closer to the emblem the better. Some emblems have a peg that fits into a hole in the fenders to line up so if you cant go anymore try a differant direction until you can pull the emblem off. The trick is to go slow and be carefull. If you dont want to try this check with a local bodyshop sometimes they may charge very litte or not at all for this and they have more experience and there could be less chance of scratching your fenders. Good Luck
Most of these things are applied with double sided foam tape. Check to see if that is what was used. the actual emblem should be away from the panel by a tiny bit due to the faom tape. If that is what you have, use the same tape method recomended before. Make sure that you are scraping the foam tape off of the emblem and not off of your paint. Leave as much of the tape on the paint as possible. Once the emblem is out of the way you can use your fingers to rub away most of the foam tape. Use a light solvent to remove the reamining glue and wax the area.
If it isn't foam tape, your best bet is to sit the truck in the sun and see if the tape or glue used will soften in the heat. Never remove the emblems in the cold, the glue will be more likely to let loose when it is hot. This works for emblem adhesive.
Heating it up like Fix said should loosen it up, a hair dryer would do the trick for you, after it's heated up you should just be able to peel them right off. Then I use WD-40 to get the adhesive goo off.
Body shop wants 60 bucks to take em off.. Says it 1.5 hrs of work.. So right now I'm going to wait.. Becuase im fixing to sink $700 in stuff for the truck.. Next month I'll go in and have them take em off.. I don't feel comfortable using a hair dryer and doing it.. That way if they screw the paint up, they have to fix it..
