HAve 97 F 350 7.3. Had transmission rebuilt by highly reccomended shop we put it in and it slips out of 2nd. He suggested that the computer in the truck was bad. My thought is the computer my tell it not to shift but not to slip am I correct in this thinking? Husband has put several transmission in so we are not new to this. Any thoughts? Malinda in Pa.
The computer does play a significant role in the function of your auto trans. For example, performance chips affect how the trans shifts by altering the hydraulics (pressure, valves, etc.). Whether this affects "slipping" (BTW, what do you mean slipping - dropping into low or neutral or just racing without any power transfer to the wheels?) or not I have no idea. I do know it alters how the tranny shifts (when, how forcefully).
This truck is not chipped. By slipping I mean racing and no transfer. It just strikes me funny that the computer took a crap and that is the only thing it affected. He replaced computers in other vechicals and never did I have transmission trouble as a result of them going bad. MAlinda
Yeah, I think that the tranny guy should trouble shoot it, if it was good going in but with a worn out transmission, it should be good coming out, but that is my opinion, and I don't know jack, I have a manual. The question is, was it doing the same thing when you took it in or was every thing operating ok.
