I think my tranny is slipping. when the truck is warm and rolling slow in traffic, in drive, the tranny clunks when changing from the lower "gear" into the over drive"gear". when i was in the mountains and in "d" at highway speeds, the truck would kind of "tug" along until i kicked the trany down by turning the od button off or by stomping down on the gas. also on the back mountain roads driving in d with the od button off at about 2500rpms, the temp would rise and you could smell something cooking. after getting back on the highway the smell went away. so the question, should i plan on re-building, or replacing my trans? what do you guys think?
do a tranny service replacing the fluid and filter and maybe install a remote mounted filter as well. How many miles on tranny? what does the tranny fluid look and smell like?
the truck is turning 170k. I had ford do a fluid change/tranny service at 100k, but can't say they drained all the fluid. the fluid looks ok on the dip stick, but I have yet to drain it. kinda getting tired of dumping cash into it,now that the rust is starting to show up, but would like to get another year or two out of it.
