I have a nice 65 4x2 truck that I am going to put on a 77 1 ton 4x4 frame. I am going to make a dump truck out of it. I have been looking at larger tires in the 12R22.5 or 10.00R20 series (about 42 inches) or 255/70 r 22.5 ( about 38 inches) to put under it. My father works for a trucking company and can get the 20 for $105 each. Cheaper than buying 16"ers. What I would like to know is can I get away with just a body lift when I build the frame for the dump bed, or will I have to put a suspension lift on it. I figure the fram for the dump bed will add about 3 or 4 inches at least, and I would raise the cab up so the body lines matched. If anyone else has tried to put these size tires on an old ford please let me know how you made out. Thanks for any info, Jim.
Yes, the bolt pattern is different. I have 2 options. Stockton Wheel will make me rims in any bolt pattern, offset and diameter up to 24.5. Cost is about 250$ per wheel. This is probably the easiest option. Another way is to get an adapter from 8 to 10 bolt pattern and use stock semi rims. Not sure how much these cost, but 1 company that makes them is chromewheels. Yes, I do plan on being able to haul a lot of weight. But, the truck is not going to be a daily driver or anything, more a truck just for me to be happy with. Thanks for the reply, Jim.
runnin that tall of a tire tire youll just kill any chance of pullin any kind of weight up a hill. most gas engines like to run in the 2000-3000 rpm range while big trucks like to run in the 1500-2000 range.at most your 1ton chasis has 4:10 gears in it and with stock size tire itll run in its sweet spot if you put on some 22.5'or 24.5's yor goin to meess up your gearing so bad yor rpm at 60 will be around 1500 -1800rpm.i have 11r 24.5's on my trucks here and at 60 with 391's in the rears at 60 im only at 1600rpm witch for me is good all cats under the hoods.anyway another thing would be have you ever lifted the bigrig tirewheel combos the just to dang heavy your stock balljoints and bearings arnt goin to handle it.if it was me id just spend the money and get 16inch skins and save your self a bunch of headaches
