If you can remove a trans then it will be easy as long as you have all of the parts from a donor truck. Make sure you get the correct year for the pedals because ford changed the design. Plus if you get a newer style trans it will not have the speedo cable hook in the trans. Drive shafts will be different and the computer as well. Can't forget about the pan on the floor.
and the hydraulic clutch mounting plates will need to be fabricated
I'm not 100% sure that is true. The last truck I messed with had the knock out already stamped in the firewall so it was as simple as knocking it out and bolting in the hyd set up.
yea, but the 87,88, and 89 cabs had a defect in the firewall that caused the metal around the clutch master to fail, and you would loose the clutch. you had to put a stiffener plate on the inside, and if it was bad enough, you had to do both inside and outside. these plates are no longer available from the dealers, the have to be hand made now.

They were bad about that in the 83 through 86 also. I made a plate for my firewall when it busted out.
I have my truck completely stripped down now. I should be able to trace the plate and scan it so I could e-mail to somebody who needs a temp-plate.
