Now that I am in pretty strong agreement that its a brake sticking making the grinding noise while coasting and braking, i have some questions. This noise was never present, until I got the truck back from them replacing the yoke and balancing and rotating the tires. As soon is i left that service building, the noise was immediate after coming to a stop. I thought it was a snowplow blade behind me, I had never heard the noise before. Is there anything that they could have done to create this new brake problem. Could it have happened when they were taking off the tires. Did they purposely loosen up something so i would have to go back to them? its very suspicious. Also, the popping noise while in turns is extremely evident now, it drive me crazy, every hard bump and turn the popping pops multiple times.
I don't know what vehicle you have, but the popping could be from the shock absorbers. If it is on the front stickey calipers are noticable at slow speeds, usually pulling to one side or the other. If you have a dirt patch you can try it out on, it will yeild some info.
The squeel can also be caused by derbis between the pad and rotor. I can of break cleaner and a visual inspection can verify. Another source is the tattle tale in the pads or shoes.
Being that they removed your wheels it is possible they got dirt in between your pads and rotor. Check to see if you have grooves starting to form in your rotors when you go to clean them. This could have been by accident or on purpose by the shop. Hard to say. What kind of reputation does the shop have? If it is a good shop they will stand by their work and fix it for free if they caused the problem. But you also have to be fair with them too in that if you take the vehicle back to them and they find something else wrong, don't expect them to pay for that repair.
The name of the service place is Sulivan Tire, I know there big here in the Northeast, dont know where you guys live, but in comparison there like a VIP, if not better. yea, i just hate having to always go back to places, it takes away all the good spirits that we had when i left. And of course right after this happens, my A/C clutch is engaging and disengaging again right after i had replaced just a month ago for doing the same thing. 2 steps forward, 3 steps backwards.
Never heard of them....Hudson Valley NY
Those noises you're discribing make me nervous. Bring it back to them if it was quiet before. Did they also do the A/C??????
A/C clutch "on and off " is normal to control the temp.....RAPID on and off cycles
(x amount of seconds to 2 min.) is what we call short cycling. Short cycling is caused by very cold outside temps OR the system being low on refrigerant...
Did you get the old clutch back????????
Does the new clutch look NEW ???????
Did they talk about fixing a refer. leak?????
Your A/C goes on with your DEFROST mode on your heater..this serves two purposes..it exersizes the A/C parts that are normally stagnent during cold weather and it helps to dehumidify the air to the windshield.
