Header Fitment

I've found a source for affordable polished stainless long tubes, but they're made for '80-? F150s. I was wondering what changed from '79 (mine) to '80 underhood that would not allow them to work on the '79. Steering shaft location? Fenderwell clearances? Frame crossmember interference?

Thanks-Pete

Sorry, on edit: "79 long bed originally a 302- going 347 stroker, C6.

Sorry-2wd. I figured the front suspension would be different, but not enough to interfere with the header fit. I don't have an '80 to compare. Thanks.

There are a lot of application books that only go back to 1980 (25 years) but the part will also fit earlier trucks.

The 1980 truck is very much like the 79.

The only things different is the body/trim and box

On the 2wd the steering is quite a bit different and I think it causes issues with headers, doesn't it?

That's what I was wondering. I talked with a guy that used some shorty Mustang headers (same brand) that were made for the '80's, on his '79 F150, but I definitely want the long tubes. These have got lazer cut 3/8 flanges, they're perfectly flat where they bolt to the head (less likely to leak) and the welding looks first-rate. I think there's an early '80-something at one of the used car lots in town- might have to go take a peek. I'll see if I can get some pics to compare, maybe pull a few measurements, and see what I can find. BTW, if anyone's interested in why I'm set on the long tubes, www.HEADERDESIGN.com has me convinced that shorties are a waste of money, AND can even hurt your fuel mileage.
