460 question
hey guys, decieded to work on my old project 74 highboy, I got an 460 for it started to take it apart today it's been awile for me. my question is on the crank there is a counter wieght behind the hermonic balencer. I pulled the balencer off but in order to get the counter weight off I need to take the key off the crank. what is the best way to do this.

I had to pull my balancer and the counter weight to change timing gear set. I seem to recall that the key is a half circle key that goes in a slot in the crank, correct. If that's the key you are referring to, a little light prying with a flat screw driver lifted mine out. Worse case if you bugger it, you get a new one at NAPA or any auto parts supplier.

i always just clamp on to the end of it with visegrips and lever it out.usually don't booger it up this way,which you can do with a screwdriver.just lightly rub key on a fine file to take any nicks out of it.
