Have you adjusted the rear brakes?

With the rear wheels off the ground, adjust untill you can feel the brake shoes start to touch.

better get repair manual and save sometime adjust the back brakes up . Remove drum the adjuster is on middle bottom the will be slot in backing plate behind it. turn and see which way the adjuster makes brakes go out (up /down ). adjust till drum fits tight .put tire on leave jacked up . now threw access slt take brake tool/flat screw driver and adjust till tire won't turn. back of till turn resistace . do other side and try out . They will wear in a short ride. If you didn't replace wheel cylinder (need to bleed system) good to go. In 3-4 weeks if you check bet could adjust more. Well good luck keep us posted.

Brakes

So you didn't drive them down did you? That would be about the worst thing you can do. You'd burn the brake shoes, the hardware and ruin the new drums.
Do you have brakes now?

Excellent. Glad to hear that. I've lost mine before, and drove into a house. A long story.

Every Ford with drum brakes that I have ever adjusted, the adjusting wheel is turned The same direction to tighten the brakes. The adjusting wheel is turned so it would roll away from vehicle if on the ground. One side has LH threads and other side is RH. The self adjuster(if it has one) must push the serrated cog wheel down. This is my crutch for remembering which way.

I know which way adjusters turn . But scbronco may have not . I described fix so if he never did it before he could easily figure it out . But thanks anyways.

My post was a sort of fyi and was directed at scbronco. I used your quote because of the good info in it. Just thought I'd let someone know how I remember which way to turn it when laying under a vehicle.
