sick turbo?
My '96 is making a strange noise. The truck is stock except for a Kwick air filter. When the turbo should be whistling, I am now hearing more of a rapid chirp. I thought it might be an exhaust mainfold gasket leaking, but I can't hear the turbo at all. What does a sick turbo sound like? Any Ideas? Thanks

Is there a faint blue smoke coming out the exaust? Do you notice any power loss? Chirping I would think would be a fan belt, from the description. If you really want to know pull the air inlet hose off the turbo and with something very clean give the blades a spin, should be smooth and quiet and easy to spin

heck just pull the whole intake off and watch it to see if its spinning while the motor is running. dont stick a finger in for this part or have any rags close by.

There is no smoke. Later today I will pull the hose off and have a look. It sounds more like an exhaust leak but I only hear it when I should be hearing the turbo. I have had exhaust leaks before and I could always hear them, no matter what the engine speed. Thanks.
