back up to 18 volts. What gives???"??I took the Altinator to the parts house they put it on
there test bench an it was working fine .........ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
What now??????
I did a search cant find anything that matches my problem..
Please help.

You may well have a wiring problem - you need to get a voltmeter and check the voltage while idling and a higher RPMs. Should have 13.5 to 14.5 volts at idle and above if charging properly - the meter on the dash may or may not be reading right.
The only tine I had a battery light on 88 model the regulator in alternator was gone, putting out too much valtage which will cause battery to die.
If you don't have ameter go to a goof electric shop in your area.
Good luck.
The benchtop alternator testers are junk!! $$ says the internal regulator on your alt is fried, swapping in a new or rebuilt unit should fix the problem.
