My truck is a 1971 f-100 with a 302 2bbl, 3 on the column. It is all stock with 89000 mls. Motor was rebuilt about 48000 because my Grandfather and my dad babied the thing to death.
My question is when I'm running about 50mph in traffic at about 1900 to 2000 rpms and traffic picks up the pace, when I press down she rattles, spark knocks
I've got my timing set good and points are right. What else is there?
Had the same problem with a 68 390. Retarded the timing so far to get rid of spark knock, had no power. I ran the distributor vaccum directly to manifold vaccum. Cured the problem and I could run the timing right up to 10 to 12 degrees if I wanted.
Beemer Nut, Call it what you want. Did this revision 20 years ago for a friend and its still working. Truck runs everyday.
I have to agree with Carl, that is not how it is designed to work. I ran a Mallory Unilite dist on my truck and it has no vac port on it at all. Dist. were designed to work from the carb vac port, but that is not to say that you can't have a successful install done differently.
