I have a '01 Ranger with 4.0 auto. problem is no brake lights at all. I have checked the bulbs, switch under the dash that is hooked to the brake pedal and as much wire as I can see. Any Ideas??? I'm lost?? One other thing I checked was the switch forward of the master cylinder and I am reading continuity thru it, is that normal? Thanks for all of your help!!!!!!
John
The switch on the master cylinder is for the cruise control.. has nothing to do with the brake lights..
Just for the heck of it have you made sure all the bulbs aren't blown? I've been stumped by that in the past. You can also unplug the brake light switch at the pedal and jump it and see if the lights come on.. if so it's a bad switch.
Also check the fuses... and it could also be a multi-function (turn signal) switch, but when that goes bad typically the third (at the top) light still works.. unless the bulbs in that are blown...
After scratching my head and everything else I started checking fuses and found a fuse for the brake pedal position switch that had blown. I'm really confused I have never known a brake system to have a fuse in them, as when all else fails you still have brake lights, I always thought it was a safety thing. What do I know????
