01 Explorer help

Hello,

I am looking for some general suggestions as a friend is looking at an 01 Eddie Bauer edition explorer. I have no experience with these vehicles, however I am an experienced marine diesel tech. and systems engineer, so I don't anticipate a problem learning the specifics. Also, my experience with these forums is that repeat questions and repitition of basic information is not tolerated well, so if I fall under those categories, kindly refer me to a location where the information is already available, thanks.

I am essentially looking for some general information regarding the reliability, problem areas and strong points of these vehicles. unfortunately, I have no more information than the following:

2001 Eddie Bauer Explorer

1. What engine would come standard?
2. Problem areas in the above engine?
3. Problem areas in the vehicle systems, body, suspension and drivetrain?
4. Does it have full time 4wd?
5. Does it have a two speed transfer case?
6. Is this a unibody or ladder frame?

Thanks for the help,

Tim

Tim, I have a post also asking the same questions on a 2000 explorer. I can answer a couple of questions 1. either the tried and true 4.0L V-6 or the 4.2L V-8, 4. I assume it is a 4X4 some Eddie Bauer madels are not 4WD 6.Frame. Sorry I cant help more but the only real experience I have was with a recenty sold 92 Explorer Sport. I am looking at buying a 2000 Sport now. I also am wanting to get some basic info on the 2000 model.
