I am replacing my distributor that has vaccum, does new one have to have it ????

I am replacing my distributor that has vaccum, does new one have to have it, or do I use an ignition box.

Vacuum advance is for gas mileage only. If you are at full throttle, it has no effect on power because at full throttle you don't have any vacuum. It advances the timing at part throttle when vacuum is high-when you are cruising. It has no effect at idle either if you hook it to a ported vacuum source on the carb.
