Oxygen sensor replacement

I was told the fuel system on bank #1 was too lean, and that I should replace my O2 sensor. How do I replace the sensor?

O2 sensor

Lean or rich fuel mixture could easily be you're oxygen sensor. Not a hard task, it will have a single plug to undo and you can buy a socket to remove the sensor, or a 7/8 wrench should do the trick.

There are 4 O2 sensors and 4 cats for our trucks. The one near the the starter is the hardest of them all to get. If you have a lift it will make the job alot easier. You can get the sensors from Auto Zone at $50 per. All senors are made by bosch, even the ones at the dealership.

"Lean" codes are seldom due to faulty sensors.

Post your EXACT fault codes for informed suggestions.

Up or Down?

Have you had the truck scanned? Some part stores will scan for you free. That should show a upstream or downstream sensor.
Upstream is by the exhaust manifold. Downstream is closest to the converter.

I had the same issue and I could not for the life of me get the tool ( Socket ) onto the Sensor by the starter. After about an hour of fussing I gave up for the day. Do you have to remove the starter to get to this sensor?

O2 sensor replacement

I changed all four of my O2 sensors today and I understand what you are going through. I changed the other three sensors in about 10 minutes all together. However, the one you are speaking off took some time. I didn't have to remove my starter. I cut the wire on the old one with a pair of wire cutters. Took the sensor out with an open end wrench. Used a long skinny flat tip to to press the connector tab and pulled on the wire that I had cut to remove the connector end. It did take a lot of patience.
