Guys I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place with my brothers 1991 Buick Skylark, he has the 2.5L 4Cylinder. All of a sudden the other day his car stopped turning on, this is after it had been idling rough and backfiring every once in a while. We had previously changed the plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter and the o2 censor. So upon the car not starting we started searching online and found that there was a recall on his vehicle for the Ingition Module going bad causing a rough idle, backfiring and adventually causing the vehicle to not start.
We installed a new module and a new coil pack last night on his car. We did not mark the plugs and wires because we have a Haynes manual for the vehicle. Originally we accidently installed the wires backwards because we were not reading the graphic properly and the car backfired. Upon installing the wires properly the car will not start now. I thought well maybe the manual is wrong on the firing sequence, so I called around and can not find any GM, mainly Buick, dealership that will give me any information. I am just told that they do not have the time to go through the manuals if they aren't fixing the car themselves. I understand their position but I just want to make sure I have the correct sequence.
you dont have the 2.3 quad4 engine right?? thats a pain to work on. even with the plugs on wrong you didnt even get spark or evena crank from the engine??
You're making it to hard. Just go to a car lot and look at one. And even better, snap a digital photo (which would have been a wise thing to do when you took it apart).
Guys I got it fixed, on the coil pack it's 2 - 3 - 4 - 1 and then on the engine it's 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 left to right.
Then again it's just another one of those Getta Mechanic cars.
Honestly I would have gone to a junk yard to just go look. Though the junk yards around here I have scoured with my brother for his car and we can not find one. Usually once they get in there they are stripped to the bone immedietly, it's just one of those cars with so many on the road and everyone after parts.
