Oxygen sensor?

Oxygen sensor?
How do I find out if my truck, a 1996 F150 with a 5.8 V8, has a oxygen sensor, and if so where is it? Also, what colour and what location would the wire be in the PCM because I need to tap into this fo my air/fuel gauge installation?

yes you do have O2 sensors, you have an OBD-II system. I am not that familiar with trucks, more of a mustang person. But you may have Pre Cat and after cat O2 sensors. You will want to tap into the Pre Cat sensors. I assume you are hooking up like an Autometer AFR guage? I hate to say it but it really is only going to be a nice little light show. It will tell you if you are really rich or really lean that is about it, or that it is working somewhat properly. But anyway here is the front O2 sensor info
Pin --- Color --- description --- Abrv.
60 --- GY/LB --- Heated Oxygen Sensor-11 (F-Right) --- HO2S-11
87 --- R/BK --- Heated Oxygen Sensor-21 (F-Left) --- HO2S-21

Well I have one in my mustang but like I said if you really want to know if you A/F is good or even what it is. You need a wideband. The way a narrow band works it is just impossible to tell what it is only that it is either really rich, really lean or if the pulses back and forth it is somewhat close. So I am pretty sure that you will see any difference at all.

I am going for the triple set up, I have the air/fuel, a tranny temp but I am wandering what third one 2 get, may be another temp gauge. Have you any idea what a pyrometer gauge does and also what a vacuum gauge does too?

yep, the pyrometer (EGT) exhasut gas temp tells you your exhaust temp. Usefull on like a turbocharged setup. Vacuum guages are handy. You can use to help troubleshoot issues with one. On a stock N/A truck the EGT isn't really usefull. It to is an indicator to A/F ratio. usually the hotter the exhaust the leaner the mixture Oil pressure would be a nice guage to have. My vote would be for the Oil pressuer then the Vacuum, in that order. EGT is more work than is worth for the most part. if you had a turbocharged superduty that you pulled **** around with then that would be good to have.
