Hello. I am having a hard time. I got some new sockets for my dash lights. I installed them and they worked fine, for a while.
Now my main connector has power when the light switch is off, but when I turn the switch on, I lose all power to the switch. Also, when my light switch is on, and the blinker is on, all the dash lights blink. I am going crazy. I'm pretty good with electrical, but this is ridiculous.Any suggestions? my wiring diagram is from 1955, and it kinda sucks. Thank you.
Sorry, I don't have any major suggestions other than go slow and be methodical in your search for the path to electrical truth.
My '56 seems to have an earlier wire harness in it. Looking at my shop manual, most of the wires have the wrong color insulation. It is very frustrating to work on. I think I'm going to wire it up using nothing but black insulation so I don't have to be confused with not knowing if the colors I'm seeing are real or not. Maybe I should just get another beer and quit screwing around with the stuff under the daash.... it's working OK now.
Thanks for the "insightful" reply. I am looking for a used light switch. I think the ground on one of the sockets was bad, because when the blinker is on, even the lights that arent connected to anything are blinking......??????????? So there is + power going through the whole dash unit.
