2.9 starting problems

Ive done alot of work to the external aspect of my truck, but lately, it's been getting worse and I don't think that it's because of the colder weather.
It hasn't been firing up like it used to... on the first turn. It's been taking more and more lately. I've even pumped the acellerator to assist.
After it fires up it sounds like it's missing; idling and sounding pretty rough for about 30-60 seconds... then sounds good again like it did 3 weeks ago.
I don't know if this is a sign of a soon break down or what, but with it getting harder and harder for it to start, I thought I'd better search here... and that's why Im starting a new thread...
Ive checked my wires, my tank is full, fluids are up. I could say that it's just gettin' old, but on the other hand I know ford didn't build that bad of a motor.
what do you think's wearing down?
a missing rough idle sound is a fuel delivery problem (been there done that). Give it enough time and the fuel pump will kick in. Usually it's the fuel pump relay going out, that's what mine was, but it can be the pump itself.
