... because my '96 Suburban has fallen into the "I hate that thing" class!
Knowing the progression of improved design from a new engine's first year to its last (fixed design "bugs" and "uh-oh's", I mean), what are the best years for the Excursion. I already know I want a diesel, but can't afford more than about $23-26K, which also limits my years available for actual purchase.
Is there anything in particular that I need to seriously avoid? (Engine, tranny, etc.)
I know that I need to get an automatic transmission, and really have no need for a 4x4. Aside from that, I'm fairly open to suggestions.
Already?? I'm getting there. But hey, I can multi-task with the best of 'em, and am willing to consider something else if there's anough experience and justification to do so.
I like my 6.0 Excursion a lot, 26k miles in 14 months. Had one problem, which was blown injector, otherwise nothing. However, even though prices have fallen quite a bit with rising fuel costs, I think a 2005 or late model 2004 is still over $30k unless you find a deal on a higher mileage unit. If this is out of your range, I'd look for a 2002/3 with the 7.3L personally. As much as I like my 6.0, the early models scare me enough to lean toward the older motor.
If you need to check prices try eBay, even if you don't buy there it's a good indicator of what they sell for. Anyone within a few hundred miles with 100% good feedback will be a good indicator of what to pay, and you may just find one to buy there too. Winter is a good time to look for 4X2 also, most people have 4WD on the brain.
Excellent tips, 2005X. Thanks. All I need to do to be ready to run down a good deal is to sell my house in Texas. I'm beyond ready to get rid of two mortgage payments. Once that is out of the way, look out Excursion owners, cause I'm gonna get me one!
