On the SD forum i read that the block heater is standard but the cord is what you have to get. Is this true? The author of that thread thought that to be the case.
Check out ebay also. There's a seller in FL. I just got mine from him. It took a few days for shipping, but should be really fast since you appear to be in FL. He shipped fast.
I have it and use it but notice nothing. The temp guage is as cold as if I had not pluged in. I'm in Chicago and my truck is newer, so I will start anyhow, but Thought the coolant temp. would be a little warm and have some heat, but no dice. Is my heater bad?
Yes its probably bad, I just used mine for the first time in my 05 the other day and the temp gauge was just off the bottom, and it warmed up really quick. This was the same way it worked in my 03.
hey listen,... I thought the same thing when I first used my block heater,...no heat, temp gauge hadn't even moved...so here's what to try, plug it in again overnight, whatever...go outside, do not start the truck, open the hood and feel the upper radiator hose and see if it warm, if it is...then it is working, the heater basically heats the coolant in the upper engine area (heads) etc., there is still some very cool coolant in the system, so on start-up, the water pump moves it around and it blends the warm and cool coolant, so it will not be as warm as you may think or want initially, but it will warm up faster after you start-up and drive, I would have to bet that it is working !!
