Here we go again. About a month age I posted that my truck would not start- no electrical power. Got lots of advice to replace the 11 year old battery cables, finally got around do doing this yesterday. No help. Here is a review of the symptoms,
1. no dome light when opening the door
2. new battery (shows just over 12 volts on the meter), new cables now also
3. will jump start and runs fine, if it stalls needs jump to run again.
I am hoping that someone can point me in a good direction because replacing electrical items until the correct one is found is more than I can afford.
Get a test probe light. looks like a ice pick with a wire and a bulb in the handle. Put wire on a ground and check all your pos leads from solinoid to starter and to alt. key on and off. there is a curent diff on each. Jump and start engine note the diff current at solinoid and alt. The sol and alt are in a way like a switch, bad, off, good on or currend flow. The haynes book on your rig has a wire diagram in the back. Did you try the sol jump? And theres a way with a remote starter botton I cannt remember but the key has to be on. A alt check is if the back center is magnetized, about the size of a quater (sp)25 cents use a screw driver and only touch the center and it will stick magnetic. Dont touch anything else, you touch the handle wood or plastic. dont know what will happen dont want to find out. I found the sol fried engaged and burned up the starter . Had current everywhere but key on or off didnt change or work would jump though. You did check the ign and acc fuses.
The only thing that I find real wierd is that there is NO power to anywhere key or no key (ie no dome light, horn etc.)
But all seems to work ok when running
