I have a set of vent rubbers from Dennis Carpenter. Do you trim off the extra rubber from molding before installation? (ie. thin little tags of rubber on wrong side of vent window)
What is the technique to install them. What adhesive?
What would you treat them with to preserve them. Armour-All?
Is it important not to put ArmourAll on the areas where the adhesive goes or can you treat the whole rubber with Armour All before you install it? Thanks
Leave the little tags of rubber on them. Use rubber adhesive glue for application. DON"T USE ARMOR ALL!!! Wait until the rubber adhesive has set (about 3 days) then apply the protectent. Use of it before applying the adhesive will cause the adhesive not to adhere to the rubber.
If you want to protect them for storage over an extended ( one or more years) time period, wipe them with any oil based product WITHOUT SILICON such as motor oil. It is the silicon that messes everything up and it is in the protectant products. When you are ready to place the rubber on the vehicle, use a chemical that cleans oil from rubber and install as I previously suggested. I rebuilt my '55 F100 at a college paint and body shop and learned these tricks. Some others did not pay attention and... well, you understand. Good luck.
