I have a 2003 f-250 Lariat crew cab. Love the room inside, but ride is stiff, noisy (wind noise) and steering loose. Lots of storage, but Shift on fly 4x4 suspect at best. Never know when its in 4x4 or not. Light on and starts off in 4x4, but somewhere on drives home it comes out (light still on) and I'm not 4x4 anymore. VERY dangerous. Fixed (?) 3 times by ford under warranty, but just don't trust it. Soooooo
Looked into 2007 f-150 King Ranch with 20' wheels. Nicer ride, quiet, but no storage and quite a bit smaller inside. Still nice and with $4250 in rebates off x-plan.VERY attractive. BUT checked out NEW 2008 sd-250 online. Looks like 150 inside. Question is, Will it ride like a 150 ?(Probably not ) Will it be as quiet as the 150 ? If the NEW 250 is quiet, smooth riding trustworthy SOF 4x4 I would like to go for that. If not I don't want to miss the rebates on a 2007 f-150 that might end Jan 2nd. Also heard it's not good to by first model year of any vehicle.....
I know I'll get some stick on this forum. A 250 is a truck and a 150 is more like a car. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
The newer super duties are coil spring up front which will give you a smoother ride. If you are looking to go with a diesel I might be leary of the first year of the new motor. My dad works at the international engine plant in chicago and he says that they are still having some major problems with the 6.4,But everybody is having them with the new 07' epa guidelines it is a problem across the board. Maybe look for a new 06'
The F150's quiet steel construction is super quiet. I'm not thinking even the new 08 is going to compare in that respect. Though the ride is considerably better with coil springs it isn't a half ton truck. Sounds if you could get by with a F150 maybe you should consider one. If you are going to need a truck like the superduty well then maybe you need to just suck it up... $.02
The 2008's will have quiet steel in the super duty. I bet it would be a great truck if you need a super duty and can get past the fugly new front end. The new diesel is set to be the quietest diesel on the market. If you want whisper quiet, get the 6.8L V10. More than once you can restart the engine because it is that smooth.
Only problem with the diesels is that all engines manufactured after jan. 1, 07 have to meet epa specs and the 6.0 doesn't thus the reason for the 6.4 . It will have to be on line soon wheather ready or not. In my opinion . stay away from first year production engines.
CSI I want to believe that but I don't think its entirely in Fords hands. They have a mandate and a deadline. Ready or not, that engine is going to be out. And my cousin, like yamaguys dad, works for Nav-Intl in Ft Wayne and the grapevine I get from there is similar. There's a lot of neat new technology and hoardes of engineering stuff that looks great on paper but the real world isnt very forgiving. They learned that in 03 and I sincerely hope they dont have to get hit with that hammer again but the engineering behind making all of that stuff work, reliably, in a myriad of situations, I would count myself in the crowd who's going to be watching what someone else thinks of their 6.4.
I have no doubt that whatever glitches arise, they'll warranty and make right, but there's a lost time and frustration factor there that warranty doesnt cover.
You said it yourself about the f150 being a car and the SD a truck. I am not a diesel fan, but I would guess the 6.4 is going to be O.K. because ford would absolutely shame themselves if they released ANOTHER lemon engine. If it were me, though, I would go for the V10, its super quiet, cheap, powerful, and lightweight... Thats just me though. Go for the SD, and maybe check out the V10 forum to see what the V10 guys think about their trucks, i havent heard from one person on their who didn't like it...just my $.02 though...
