How Good Are These Transfer Cases. Are There Chain Driven Or Gear Driven. And How Strong Are They. Im Plain On Doing Some Muddn And Who Knows What Else. I Believe Theres No Place A Truck Should Not Go. Sometimes I Do Stuff Without A Thought To The Wind.
Thank You
And
Merry Christmas All
They are a chain driven light duty (half ton or below) transfer case. They are not a bad case, but if you really are going to rail it you should get something heavier duty.
Do They Gear Them Differently For Different Truck Setups. Because It Used To Be On The 6.9 That Was At On Time In This 86 F250 Truck. I Never Run It Before Since I Bought The Truck A Few Years Ago, But Its Real Clean And Looks New. Im Just Now Getting Around To Putting The 4x4 Back In The Truck
Are you sure that it is a 1345? As I remember, 1356 looks about the same and was used an awful lot behinds the diesel and the 460. It could be that the 1345 was just an earlier version of the 1356. But for some reason I am thinking that the 1345 was a ranger and bronco II case. I'm sure others will chime in with a better memory than I have.
Nevermind, my memory is coming back. The 1345 was the predecessor to the 1356 and it is a good case that will take a good amount of abuse. The 1354 was the ranger case and bronco II. I got the numbers tranfixed in my head. You have a solid t-case and I wouldn't worry about it much. However, it isn't a np205.
The 1345 is a very good transfer case. Just because it is chain drive does not mean it is bad that transfer case came in everything from bronco's up to F-350 deisels and 460's. I have never seen one go. Also the gear ratio is much lower then a np205. I have 40's on my truck one ton rears and a 550 horse 460 in my truck and I would not want a different transfer case. also you dont need a one ton tranny jack to get the transfer case off.
You are right oldman....you don't need a one ton tranny jack and their low range is really good. I had a 1356 in my bronco with 38s on it and it was fine with really hard abuse. I really liked how low, low range was behind the T-19 4 speed. It seemed like it would go anywhere. However, I did see a 1345 completely break in half on a 1 ton plow truck...it was at the tranny shop I was shopping at. I have no idea what this idiot did, but, I was shocked because I have never seen that happen before. It was probably just a fluke, but still, it was like wow, I didn't know that COULD even happen.
