P1000 = Ford OBD Systems Readiness Test Not Complete
-- OR --
P1000 OBD-II Monitor Testing Incomplete
Ok...clear the P1000 code. Disconnect the neg battery cable and turn on the headlights for about 30 or 45 minutes. This will drain all the residual from the electrical system.
Re-connect the negative battery cable. Start SD and drive "NORMALLY" for a minimum of 45 minutes in city (stop and go). Now drive a minimum of 45 minutes highway...again...normal driving.
What needs to happen is your PCM needs to "learn" your driving and have a complete cycle doing so.
That "valve noise" is pinging. Try a higher octane gas, I suspect that the Hypertech probably requires 93 octane.
You should talk to Hypertech about it first. They may just have something simple to say about it.
The P1000 code is "not all monitors are complete" ... as in, it hasn't done all it's testing. This code comes up after a certain period of time when the system can't test everything.
On an '01 V10, there isn't much to test. It doesn't do a catalyst efficiency test (unless you have an O2 sensor AFTER the cat?), it doesn't do an O2 sensor heater test, etc.
biz4two, thanks for that info. I also just installed the Hypertech programming and get the P1000 code. So, this technique will work for my 2002 F150 5.4L?

The P1000 code is set immediatley any time there is a system reseet, such as disconnecting the batteries, clearing codes, or installing new programming.
The ONLY way to clear it is to drive. The Ford shop manual has a drive cycle designed to clear this code quickly. I don't have it handy, but it includes stop and go, and highway at several different speeds.
