i know theres another thread about the guy who just fixed his radio....but i didnt want to jack his. But while driving home from upstate last weekend, i had a cd playing. I also had the driving lights on and the heat. well after a while of playing, the cd stopped playing and said "cd hot". so i took it out and i could barely hold it! I then felt the dash above the player and it was hot. So then i thought it was the heater, but i had it directed to the floor and it wasnt even hot air really. then i thought it was the dashlights, so i dimmed them and after about 10-20 minutes i was able to put the cd back in. I was just wondering if anyone else ever had this problem?
Does the fan on the radio come on when the key is turned on? If not, It may be over heating.
I dunnoo..never had it out of the dash to see if it even has a fan.I works fine as long as I'm not driving for long distances and really blaring the music.

With mine you can hear the fan come on as soon as you turn the key on. With the radio turned down you should be able to here it. It is located on top of the radio/cd player.
I've had the same thing happen on my 99 F-150. I now have satellite radio and don't listen to CD's for extended periods of time. I sure would like to know what causes it.
I had the exact same problem, took it to the dealer and they replaced the radio at no charge. Seems as though it had been happening to hundreds of trucks.
ill have them look at it next time i bring it in...

You can get off the New York State Thruway at exit 27 which is Amsterdam or exit 28, which is Fonda
I have a 97 f150 with a cd changer and the factory premium sound. I like to listen to the music fairly loud and usually have the cd player going. Mine will flip to radio and tell me "no cd" right in the middle of playing the cd! Usually the face of the radio is pretty hot.

Doc, Thanks for your service! I took mine to the dealership in Jacksonville NC while in the Corps. Normally, they are of very little help but they came through for me this time because it had happened so often with these radios. They gave me the choice of leaving the radio with them and coming back when the new one was in or having them order one first and coming back. Of course I elected the 2nd option.
Whatever the issue was they must have fixed it because I haven't had a problem since! S/F Dwayne

well i bought the truck at Browns Ford in Amsterdam....had a few problems with them lying to me. like when we bought the truck, they said they already did a tranny flush and coolant flush. well when i got home i looked and i could tell they didnt, my dads tranny fluid was cleaner with 25k on it than mine was and it had 37k on it. so we brought it back and they did it for free. were going to bring it to a dealer down here by where i live since Browns couldnt hear the rear end whine or the front end noise
