i dont really like a lot of noise in the cab, but i really liked the turbo spool down noise that i got when i was running on dp only. questions are: is it loud in the cab and do you still get that spool down noise? if you do get that spool down noise, what about on bb turbos?
To tell you the truth, they are not that loud at all with windows up. I guarantee its not much louder than a 4" exhaust system straight piped with the monster 6" tip. I did know that was back there, because you could hear the echo off of the things that the exhaust's sounds bounced off of. My stacks come about 2-3-4" above the top of the cab, and they are miter cut, so the sound just goes straight up and doesnt really bounce off of anything other than going under bridges. If you ride with your windows up and the radio on, i seriously don't think you will know they are back there unless you are getting on it hard to accelerate onto an onramp or pass a car. But for normal highway driving its hardly noticeable. And even if you can hear it, the tone is not annoying, you will love the engine grumble. Im sure if you get turnouts and turn them outward some, the sound will bounce off of objects beside you and probably make it louder. 6 Inch is the only way to go! If you get 5" you will most likely regret it and end up going with 6". Standing from a distance 6" even looks too small but i sure don't have the flow to make 7" look cool. As it is now smoke just bellows out the top and goes straight back when im moving. I do get the spool down noise, and its freaking amazing. I do too get the sound of the turbo slowing down once i shut down the truck, for about 15-20 seconds you can hear it howling. Hopefully santa brings me a video camera, and i can get with my buddy sometime this week and take some sound and smoke footage.
I think my stacks have less drone than my old 4 inch straight pipe did. Noise isn't that bad - like Kris said, if you're really getting on it you can hear them, but normal driving it's quite tolerable. That's just my opinion though.
That is Kevin's fine pulling machine. I don't pull with mine, yet. still a few more mods to put on before im comfortable in front of a sled! Mine is in my signature
Nice truck Kris. Love that color. Sorry for the mixup. I know one other guy on here who has stacks its Cat Man 963. He maybe see this thread an reply. He just loves them an it looks good on his truck.
Yep, Chad has 5" stacks as far as i know, still. He was going to sell me his 5" when he went to 6" but with money constraints and things like that it didnt happen, and i'm glad i went with 6" because 5" would just look funny on my truck. His stacks are custom, they are closer together and not as close to the sides of the bed, and mine are rubbing them haha. His are also a few inches higher too.
Thanks for the compliments, but im dropping it back down this week..
Has anyone tried to make the pipes come outside the bed, like have them turn out under the bed and go up the side, would not be much wider than a dulley, or make some half circle cuts in the side of the bed and have them come out that way with some heat shields on them, I am thinking of something like that. I just do not want them in my bed.
usmc, a user here by the name of DaveWilliams has 4" out of the bed stacks on his crew cab dually. The only bad thing is that they are not 5 or 6", but the install does look good.
