Hey guys my local Buy n fly exxon station in north versailles, pa 15137 finally got the ULSD fuel this week i filled up there this past monday, the price was still the same as the LSD fuel so no higher cost, also they put the new sticker over top of the old LSD sticker that was there last week, what my question is, what is needed to be ULSD compliant fuel seller, I went to at least 4 other diesel fuel stations in my area (10 mi radius) and all of their pumps still have the LSD sticker on them and when i go into the store and ask the sales manager/clerk if and when they will have ULSD he looks at me like i have lobsters crawling out of my ears, i mean the guys have no clue what i am talking about. 2nd Question is their some way that you can make the turbos on the 6.0L engines keep the turbo vanes in the fully open position all the time, (sort of act like a non-wastegated standard turbo) I know this is a dumb question but it might help the turbo lag that our engines are known for.
Any thoughts would be appriciated .
You don't want the vanes all the way open as you'll have rediculous turbo lag. Only power up top. If they were closed all the time, you'd have tons of power down low, but overboost pretty quick.
My question with the ULSD is will it help with the EGR soot issues and the fallout from those things.
There are already aftermarket turbo setups out there that convert out the EVRT turbo. That would get you far better results than fixing the vanes in position. As to modifying boost, you need t ostart looking into stronger head bolts if you plan on going much above 30 psi on a regular basis.
As to ULSD and fuel mileage, I've got two tanks through mine now with no real change. Lots of people on here seem to have lost a little bit. I use Diesel Kleen additive and did before, though.
Supposedly the ULSD will cut back on the soot and have a higher cetane. That sounds like it should be good for us.
I think a lot of the reason you still see the LSD sticker and not the ULSD label is that the station hasn't certified ULSD yet. I'm quite sure all the diesel being produced at the refineries is ULSD and probably has been for some time. It can only have good benefits for the motors if they refine it correctly and add the correct lubricants. Cleaner is better in a 6.0.
Hey guys the tipe of milage i was getting around town and highway combined is 15-17mpg with the LSD now. I dont know if it will stay the same or go down
