Question First Maintenance Service??

How you all doing? I'm new here and l was just wondering when I should service my new truck for its first maintenance service?? The book says 5,000 miles but that seems long to me I thought it is usually every 3,000 ?? Especially on the first one... I have 3,000 miles on it right now... I have a F-150 stx 4x4 4.6 v8 supercab !!

I personally prefer every 3000 miles. I usually change my old vehicles every 2500

unless you do the severe driving the manual talks about, your wasting your money changing oil sooner than 5k. It's your truck, you can do what you want, but that is what I do. Everyone talks break in on new engines. Modern machining and cleaning techniques really don't leave any crud in the engine and break in is almost non existant. My last two cars I have done this, and at 55,000 miles on my 2005 focus shows no bad affects of changing it at 5k intervals. the 3000 mile intervals is pushed heavy by the oil change companies... they make more money that way. I figure ford designed and built the vehicle. There enginiers know what to do to keep the engines from failing from bad oil.

You make a good point there!!! Why would they tell you something wrong that will ruin your truck, and have the warranty cover it,and then they would be loosing out in the long run >>>>>>>>>>

3000 mile oil change intervals will make your wallet lighter and the oil companies happier, but your engine won't be any better off for it. Stick with what the book (and the people who warrant your engine) tell you- 5000 miles.

Merry Christmas- hope you bag your limit!

I always bring my vehicles in for their first oil change at 1500 miles. I think its long enough to allow the motor to continue its break in.... but not too long that any excess material from the break in to wander too far.
