I have a question about installing an air locker in to a 2wd pickup iI plan on putting a 9" ford rear diff in to my 83 ranger and I want a locker. I see that air lockers are used in 4x4's all the time and just wondered if anyone know's anything about them in 2wd trucks. The reason I was thinkng air locker was I am planning on making a truck that I can drive around town and have some fun with, but when I pull away from the corner I can stay away from the one wheel peel.
Any comments and help would be great
Thanks Will
A locker does not know the difference between a 4x2, and a 4x4. It only knows that it's job is to make both axles spin at the same rate.
As far as the one wheel peel, any locker will do this, the only advantage to the air locker, is that it will allow you to do a one wheel peel if you wanted to. This will give you some added street manners.
Going to the 9"er is a nice mod by the way.
don't forget you've got to buy the compressor too.unless u get alot of snow and ice where you live i'd just go with a detroit to save some coin, but if you drive a two wheel drive ranger in the snow and ice of winter yer kinda screwwed anyways.a detroit goes for about 475 and an arb with compressor goes for about 950. just something to think about
I understand the money thing and the compressor the reason i was going to a air locker is i was planning on installing an air ride system so the air is already there. also it's only going to be a summer truck i'm lowering it and installing a 351w 5 speed and 9 inch rear. If i go to a air locker i can deside when and were it locks in and don't run the chance of it slipping as i'm lanching it off the line
