Locking Hubs?

Ive got a 99 F250 Diesel, it is a 4X4 obviously. The hubs will turn manualy, but im not sure what way lockes em. The 4 wheel drive is activated by a switch.......are the hubs going to automaticly lock or do I have to do it? If so, which way do I turn em to lock em? Thanks.

Yes they will lock automaticly if everything is working ok. What you should do is jack up front end and lock and unlock wheels manully and automaticly to make sure it's all working ok.

Counter clockwise is "Auto lock" and should engage with the dash switch. Clockwise is "manual lock" so the axle is engaged all the time.

Clockwise to lock them manually, and counterclockwise to return to ESOF, (technically unlock, if the switch inside is in 2wd). Always try to rotate (by hand) the axle(s) at the back side of each knuckle to make sure they are actually "free". Often they do not work as designed.
