Angry 94 F-350 Tranny Troubles

It's me again. My 94 F-350 4x4 has the 460 motor with the ZF tranny, snd now she growls at me going into 2nd gear when the rpms are too high or if i downshift into 2nd going faster than 15 mph. I had a tranny shop loook at it & they said these trucks are known to have this problem, $ that I needed new syncros all the way around. the local dealership quoted me $1200 if they completeley overhaul the tranny, & I can buy a rebuilt one on the net for around $1150. I don't know which is the best way to go. I don't think I'm mechanical enough to do it myself, But If I did, it would save me around 800 bucks. Has anybody dealt with sommething like this before? Any advice? I would appreciate any ideas. I thought about getting a wrecking yard tranny w/a 90 day guarantee, but my mechanic said I would be in the same boat after about 6 months. HELP!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

I would have your case rebuilt by a reputable tranny shop. That way, you know what you are dealing with, and buying a rebuilt off the net to save you 50 bucks, can cost you alot more in shipping as these trannies are not light. I wouldnt reccomend buying a wrecker tranny for the sake of reliability. I also dont reccomend rebuilding it yourself, because I am sure there are some specialty tools required, and if you mess something up then you are the one responsible and have no warranty in turn costing you more money in the end.
