guage wiring...HELP!!

hey guys, i installed an autometer transmission temperature guage today, but im having trouble with the wiring.

the backlight is fine (spliced into the dimmer), but i dont know what wire to splice into for the main power. i followed an online guide and spliced into a red wire with a yellow stripe for 12v key on power, but now when i turn on my parking lights the guage backlight comes on, as it is supposed to, but when i turn it farther to switch on the lights the guage shoots up to 250 degrees, all the way from 0. what did i do wrong? what wire am i supposed to use?

sounds like you connected the signal wire to the switched power source. Or you have the ground reversed, so you are adding power to the ground and the gauge is grounding through the sender. Check your wiring again.

i figured it out...thanks though

my ground and power wire were in contact with one another. when i pushed the guage into the pod the insulator on the connector was pushed off of the terminal, and the wires were touching. good think i installed that fuse inline with the power wire..lol
