I have a '55 F350 with the original 272 in it and a granny four speed with pto. I want to stick an '88 351M into it. Will the bellhousing match? If not, does anyone know of a bellhousing that will mate to this tranny and engine and where could I get one?
At least you have a 272, my 54 F-350 still has the 239!
Ive tried to get the same question answered since my PTO controls the dump hoist on a 9' bed pick up.
No clear answers yet. I was considering a 390 so I could get rid of that 5.14 rear but dont know if the old 4sp will handle the power.
Looking for some FE type 4sp/PTO and see if I can find what sort of mounting problems there are. So many junk yards, so little time.
Another possibility Ive thought of was going to the 390/C6 combo and run an engine driven pump. Any ideas? I have a 85 E-350 Dana rear with 4.10's that will fit well.
Finally, why not use a 4sp from a donor truck? Ive seen several wrecker and dumps with that 351 combo.
Sorry about the rambling...comes with age.
