I have 300's in both my 96 F150 4X2 and my 89 E250.The F150 has no trouble staying with traffic.I have yet to put a load in, behind or on the roof of my 89 E250 that it wouldn't move.
As far as a race engine, well many of the local dirt track fans remember a driver named Lou Gentile. He had a reworked 300 in a Mustang that ran in the old semi-late division. He drove the V-8's fits with that car.The rules allowed the 6's more mods to make up for lack of cylinders and he took advantage of it.Went as far as a custom head made out of 2 351C heads cut and welded together.I have no idea what it redlined at but I well remember the scream it made coming past the flag stand at Lernerville Speedway.

That's freakin awesome!! Yeah I saw somewhere... and I can't remember where an old slingshot dragster with a 300 six in it. It had 351c heads (cut and welded) on it, man that thing was wicked lookin! Far as bein able to pull something heavy, the 300 will do it... durn tootin!

i know a guy who had a 300 in a race car it had a high reving cam and a 650cfm holley 4bbl he was leaving 355s and 400s and scaring 402s it made 400 hp
Funny how this thread came up again. This past Friday the announcer at Lernerville mentioned Lou Gentile. He holds 4th place for career feature (main) wins at Lernerville (88 total).Local sprint car driver Ed Lynch Jr has 85 and is on a hot streak. If his luck holds he will likely pass Lou before the end of the season. Funnier thing is most of Lou's wins were powered by 300 Fords running door handle to door handle with big block V8's.
It does need a little TLC, fortunately I am my own mechanic. It needs some brake work, exhaust, u-joints...minor stuff. It runs excellent, ice cold AC, good heat, clutch feels good (5 speed), pretty much everything works, it has decent tires. I am happy with it so far, I bought it to replace that money pit of a GMC I have been fighting with. The fact that it has a 300 six... having great previous experience (my 84 F150) with em I can't go wrong. I figure 2wd with a 5 speed manual and 2.73 gears, it should be pretty easy on fuel.
