I have a 77' highboy that had a u-joint knocking so I took out the front shaft to start there & the truck will not pull in just hi I have to have it in hi-Lock before it will move. When the driveshaft was in then it was fine in hi. If anyone can explain this I would appreciate it. I have never heard or seen this problem before.
The NP 203 case has a differential inside. This prevents the tires from barking when driven on pavement. The loc feature does exactly that, it locks the center differential providing equal power to the front and rear shafts. Most guys figure this out when they try to install locking hubs to the front of their rigs, and fail to purchase the entire part-time kit. Re install the front shaft, and the truck will be normal again. Or at least as normal as it was before you removed the shaft.
Yeah pretty much so I don't have a knock going back & forth now. The U-Joints are on my long list of stuff for the long weekend so I hope to have them done tomorrow. Thanks pusher
The 203 is chain driven vs. the all gear of the 205. Depending on application, the choice comes down to how one uses the truck.
The 203 is prefered by guys that run plows and stuff, when full time 4 wheel drive is used. They are still not as strong as the 205, but a pretty good case nonetheless.
