thinking about a tuner

I'm looking for opinions on tuners that are on the market for an 03 F250 5.4 auto.Which would you say is the best? Is it really worth the money ,how much power gain can I expect (not really worried about mpg). I know others have asked these questions sorry to be repetitive.

Give Troyer a call

I got an XCAL2 from Troyer Performance. They are a sponsor of this site and are great to work with. I like the XCAL2. They can program in three tunes of your choice. The biggest change I noticed was in throttle response. Power was a little better too.

I have an Xcaliber II from Troyer and recommend it. Most of the off-the-shelf tuners will not adjust the shifting on F250's as well as some other things. Troyer will take care of this for you.

Wish I could call before but we have to tow out to Harrisburg farm show( 4 cows ), so I'll get to see what it tows like before and after the tuner. Once again thanks for the input.

Hello and good luck with your tuner.I got a chip from TS Performance. It is a 75 Horsepower all in one chip.Just plug and go.It cost about $320. This thing brought my 99 F350 7.3 to LIFE!!!! If your not carefull you will burn the tires right off..It even chirps the tires when it shifts to 2nd.Also I pull a 36' 5th wheel allmost every weekend in the summer and does great. plus 18 mpg. sorry about rambling on but This is my 2 cents.

savage2211, Glad to hear that you are happpy with your chip but you can't compare diesel chips/tuners to gas ones. You get much much more from diesel. Gas tunes are going really well if you pick up 35 hp with just them and that is almost unheard of.

03scf250, Troyer will be slightly higher than others but they are one of the best. He does not tune your engine to the extent it is hard on it. He also tunes for longevity.

I have the SuperChips Tuner in my 06 F-250 5.4L 4x4 3:73 gears and It too has 3 levels of tuning. I put it in and instantly noticed good throttle response, they claim 10% increase in HP & Torque It feels much better I am satisfied with SuperChips. AutoAnything.com for $385 SuperChips website says $550. Although your 03 is not Electronic Throttle Drive by wire controlled. This is a bad feature for throttle response.

I finally got around to ordering the xcal 2 from Troyer called today from work came home downloaded the worksheets ,and just got done faxing them back. They said it will take 4-5 weeks til I get it, thats just to long I'll be like a little kid that knows what he's getting for christmas but can't have it christmas morning. From what I've read and everybody told me it will be worth it. I'll post again after I have it and get a chance to try out the tunes. Till then thanks for the info.

Did you ever get your tunes installed? I ended up selling my F250 with the V10 but the guy didn't want the tuner... guess I put it on ebay?

Yes I got the tunes installed. So far I've only run the 87 oct tow tune and have not lost any fuel mileage ,but did notice better throttle response and shifting seems to have improved also. I won't be doing any towing for at least 2 months so I'm going to fill the next tank with 93 oct and see what the full performance tune will do.
