Replacing Oxygen Sensor
I have a 97 ranger 4.0 manual transmission. Check engine light came on and it showed a bad O2 sensor. Replaced it and the light is still on.
Do I need to reset the light so it won´t come back again? Does the simple act of replacing the sensor would make it come off or do I need to do something else?
Thanks
I'd check the fuses and the wires to the O2s... burnt insulation or loose connectors.
O2s last a LONG time unless you kill them. With lead, silicone or anti-freeze.

That should clear the code, & turn the CEL off, without wiping out all your clock, radio, ect, presets. But it might run a little rough until it relearns it's idle, ect.
Or after a battery disconnect, which will clear codes & all your presets & idle strategy, to aid the computer in quickly relearning idle stradegy, I usually restart mine cold, let the initial fast idle come down some, then slowly shift my auto tranny, into all gears, including reverse, such that I feel them engage, then let it fully warm up at idle in "N" or "P", then repeat the gear shifting at warm idle.
Another option would be to clear the code with a code reader, or scan tool.
If you don't have one, most autoparts stores do & can clear the code & you won't loose your presets or idle strategy.
Just some options to ponder.
