posi-lock or not?

The code on my door is 19 for the axle. I searched this site, found a post that said that would be a one wheel wonder. Yet in the snow or ice I leave 2 uniform peel marks. Is there another number above or below the 19 that may mean something. The tag says 55 8.8, can't make out the rest. My Mustang I know is posi, I think there is an "L" somewhere on the tag, but don't see that on my truck. Thanks....

You most likely have a 3.55 open rear axle. This is based on my truck which has a 3.55 LS rear axle. My door code is H9.

Click here, it is a link that explains how differentials work. In a nutshell both wheels recieve the same amount of power, so if you have both tires on ice or gravel then usually both wheels will get the same amount of power. I also have an open rear on my truck and can leave dual tracks in the snow and on gravel. The link will explain it a little better.

Thanks for the link, I learned a little. I guess I don't have posi, but it sure seems to grip more uniform than the old rear wheel drive cars I had back in the 70's. My Mustang is almost scary in how it grips. It's just a summer nice weekend driver, but if you launch hard into a corner, it will start to slide a little from wheel spin, the the posi lock takes hold and pulls the car back straight. If you counter steer at first with that tight suspension, you can get screwed up real quick. Thanks for the responses, if any one can recommend a better shifter for my 5 speed on the Mustang, I'd try it. I want to leave it all stock, but man that shifter has trouble finding 3rd gear. I joined the Mustang site, but I'm kind of old for those guys. Happy Holidays!............
