I just bought a 2006 F-150 supercrew and I've bought a sony xplod radio for it. I was thinking of installing it myself but I don't know how to take out the old radio. Is it worth doing yourself or just take it to somone else to have it done?
Why would you want to remove the stock radio? you lose the clean look. I could understand if it was a 10 year old vehicle, but brand new? To get it out, I believe you need special "keys" that are different from the keys you get with your new radio. You should be able to pick them up at any audio store. If you are replacing it so you can hook up subwoofers, you know you can get an adapter for that right? Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just gently remove the outer trim then remove the four screws holding it in

You don't need any keys or nothin' fancy. Just pull out the ashtray (not all the way just extend it) and start pulling from the bottom on the trim piece that goes around the radio, ac controls, etc. It seems that its in there good, but it'll pull off. After that, like gebo21 states, there are four screws holding the radio in.
Thanks for for the info. I want to replace the radio because my factory one doesn't play mp3's and my old truck did. So I have a lot of cd's that are in mp3 format, plus I got an awesome deal on the radio.
