So, on my mazda3 the foglights couldn't be turned on without turning the headlights on. I bypassed this by wiring the switch on the light stalk directly to the relay and then getting a power source that was always hot as long as the car was on to switch the relay on. Now they work anytime as long as the ignition is on.
Now, I want to make it so they light up with my dome light when I unlock the doors with the key thing. Easy, run the hot from the dome light to the same part of the relay as the hot thats on with the ignition, right? Nope. The dome light is always hot and has a switched ground. so i'm lost at this point.. my friend suggests we find the other side of this switch and run a line from that to the relay, does that make sense?
If the ground side of the dome light is switched, you will need to use a second relay. Jumper the hot wires across the relay contacts to the first relay, and an 'always' hot to the relay coil with the ground side of the relay coil grounded through whatever grounds the domelight. Hope you have a wiring diagram to see what that 'whatever' is.
