Clicking usually indicates a low battery. Have you tried jumping it? If you can get it going, you should be able to check lights with help to determine that they are working. As far as there being a short, you might go back through and check the things you changed to see if any wires got pulled out in transition. Other than that, you might search the forum to see what other answers you can find. I'm pretty sure we've all had starting trouble at some point.

Thumbs up

if yer having starter issues, just like mo said it may be a dead battery or loose battery cables...first take off the cables to the battery and clean the terminals until there a realy shiny silver, then you do the same to the other post as well...if that doesn't fix the issue, you want to follow the positive cable from the battery to the silinoid(little cylinder next to the batter)and make sure that the connection is tight on the post to the silinoid, then you wanna make sure the lead from the silinoid to the starter isn't touching something under the truck to ground it out like for example (headers, the frame, anything that would cause it to ground out,) and make sure that the cable from the silinoid to the starter is snug tight on the starter, that is usually the problem with a freshly installed starter, then you wanna check the ground for the silinoid, which is usually located on the left side of the silinoid, it has it's own post and wire, that should be grounded at the block very tightly, that would be the only suggestion i would have, i don't think it's yer ignition switch bec the click yer hearing is the routing of power from point a. to point b. i would try that first.

at first glance it sounds like a dead battery. but it could also be bad cables from the battery. i had a similar problem, with a new positive cable, about 6 months to a year after i installed all new cables my truck would just click when i turned the key, turned out the positive cable was breaking apart on the solenoid end. if i wiggled the cable it would start. id start with trying to jump it, then id clean and secure all cables (check for damage) also at this point make sure you have a good ground. sometimes the simplest solution is the hardest to find. if that still doesnt work, it could be yer starter. before you replace the starter check for visible damage, like rust holes or broken peices. i had a starter rot out so bad i could see inside it.

That part the battery cable goes to is actually called a "SOLENOID"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solenoid

or more precise a "STARTER RELAY"

All tests for electrical systems should be performed with a fully sharged battery.
This excludes the battery from be the problem during diagnosis.

Batteries should be tested at an automotive center as they perform numerous tests on their machine.
Batteries can show 12+ V but don't have the means to crank a starter.
Batteries can sulfate and develop a short inside themselves thus causing startinbg or operational problems.
