Truck won't start this morning. Ran fine yesterday and started a little rough but colder this am. I tried to jump the GPR with no luck, it just keeps turning over. I checked the voltage at the post key off and one side was 12V and the other 0V. I then turned the key on and get 10V at the same post and 2V at the post that read nothing earlier. The 2 small posts read 10V on both sides. Does this mean the GPR is bad? The truck has never been in cold weather before and I am checking the relay closest to the fuel filter housing. What is the best replacement if I need one?
The relay you are checking is the AIH (Air Intake Heater) relay. You want to check the one closest to the windshield, which is the GPR (Glow Plug Relay).
One large terminal will have 12-volts constantly, the other large terminal will have zero volts with key off and voltage (10-11 volts) when key on, for some amount of time, depending on temperature. If you do not see voltage on the other large terminal when key on, this relay may be bad. You can jump the two large terminals with a screwdriver for 20-30 seconds, then attempt to start.
It is also "possible" that PCM is not providing the ground signal to activate the relay, however this is typically NOT the case. Most common is the relay itself.

Ok, I checked the other and with key on it's 10V on the 2 large terminals and 10V on the 1 small terminal towards the radiator and 0V on the one towards the firewall. I have it plugged in now for 1 1/2 hours. It also had a new CPS just a short time ago. Also just installed my DP tunere and has been running fine for the last few days. Just parked it last night and now no start.????
I am late for my vacation and will just buy new batteries if that is the problem. When I bought it in AZ the alarm system was dragging the batts down but it has always started for me lately but now it is starting to crank slower today. I believe walmart was the place of choice for them. Any certain model I should get? The truck has been sitting while I have been in Iraq so maybe this could fix it.
Just by chance, do you have a "No Start" position on the tuner? Any possibility it is in this position? I am not familiar with this function, but I read that there is a specific procedure to get it off of the "No Start" position.
But, Alan is right. The voltage on the batteries is low and I think this may cause issues with the electronics (PCM, etc).
I think you want to make sure that the batteries are at least 875 CA.

Actually I did put it on the no start last night and tried it to see how it worked, it didn't start but turned over. I put it back in the stock setting this am and now it won't start???Now I wonder, thought you just turned the switch to get it going again.
Walmarts are fine they have a 1000cca batt that will "Git - er - Done"
during cranking you want to see > 10.5v at the battery post. It take alot of juice to fire one of these - GPR, Starter, and all PCM fuctions.
On a Dp all you have to do is switch the setting, unless you had "no start" put in position 0 then if the switch fails or is unplugged it will default to position 0
well just got off the phone with Jody and he thinks the tuner is stuck in the no start mode with the low voltage. I'm headded out for new batteries now and he said it should get the chip to reset.........back in a few! Prayers are accepted at this time. Thanks for the help, stay tuned.
Now I'm really PO'd! Spent 180.00 on batteries, I'm 5 hours late, truck started just fine with the new batteries. Grabbed all my tools to let it warm up a few min before I leave and turn around and look out the garage window after it kicked into high idle and fuel is spraying all over the fenders, windshield, engine, driveway, fresh engine detail and expensive car detail..........shop just called and tow trucks are unavailable so they are going to go to the Ford dealer and get a new fuel filter cover and seal (see my NAPA fuel cover episode on other post a couple days ago) It's 12 noon somewhere and I'm having a drink! At least they are coming to my house to fix it this time...
