I had my first over boost on my stock truck. When it overboosted I was leveling off a hill and I blew the intercooler to throttle body coupler off of the TB. Is there anything I should be worried about? Has any one installed a blow-off valve on the intake?
bowtiehatr - How do I check for a sticking turbo? The truck launches off the line so I don't think the turbo is stuck in high boost. And I was able to feel what no power feels like when the tube popped off so I don't think that's the case either.
ford4life - I don't have a boost gauge in the truck so I couldn't tell you what the boost level was at.
CanadaGuy - I think I'm going to have to go with you on that. I never touched the tubes but I can't say if the previous owner had or not.
if the turbo is sticking, they like to do it hot and they stick in full boost spot and poof! then there is issues. it may just be a boot issue but dont rule out the turbo because if it keeps sticking, your head gaskets are next.
Like Canadaguy said that normally doesn't blow off so I would think it wasn't seated right. There is a little grove in there and if it isn't seated just right it will pop off. It is loud and then there is no power. Sounds pretty mean though.
Is there diagnostics I could run to see if the turbo is sticking?
to be honest it is difficult for us to even diagnose a sticking turbo. it depends on how bad it is sticking. see what your dealer has to say. they will probably replace/clean the turbo.
