I changed my rear leaf about a year ago and one day I noticed that the axle didn't seem to be in the center of the body. I took the tires off today and loosened the u-bolts and when loose became centered. When I tightened everything back up it and put weight back on it it seemed to be back to the exact same spot. About 2" off center.
Has anyone had this problem? Should I drop the truck, putting weight on it before tightening up the u-bolts?
Centeref front to back or side to side? There should be a centering pin where the leaves and the axle housing come together and not a lot of room for adjustment either way. Surely not 2 inches worth.
Is it posible that its not the right spring , or that the spring eyes are the same and its in backwards putting the centering pin offset in the wrong direction ?

The springs are OEM confirmed through the VIN, they visually match the old springs.
If the springs were installed backward wouldn't it be quite difficult to align the axle? I remember when putting them on they were a little fussy to get them to sit in the pin, but nothing to serious.
Something is seriously wrong of your axle is 2 inches off center.
IMO - If the springs were backwards, that would move the pins forward or backwards, but the side-to-side track shouldn't move. If you didn't get the perches seated on the pins, or if the pins were somehow broke I could see this happening.
Sounds like your frame might be bent, Was it wrecked at one time? Have a good body shop check your frame for a (diamond). That would explain bad tire wear as well.
also look at the gaps between the bedsides and the cab, should be even on both sides, if one side is alot wider or tighter, thats a good sign of a (frame diamond)
I rechecked the offset and it is about 1/2" off center now, after I loosened the u-bolts to check to see if all alignment pins were in place. Would a 1/2" be acceptable? Could an alignment shop correct this or should I still have a body shop take a look at it?
As far as I know it has never been in an accident, but then again I bought it used.
